Up until 1970, female soccer was officially forbidden in Germany. Thus, it was the players in the illegal SSG 09 Bergisch Gladbach who accepted the invitation to participate in the first female world tournament in Taiwan. These German women achieved the unthinkable: they were crowned as world champions. As a consequence of this achievement, the DFB was forced to fund the female team.
This documentary illustrates the beginnings of German female soccer as its main players tell stories about the ignorance they had to face. The movie tells a story of soccer seeking something beyond just winning – seeking recognition and gender equality.
